This was an unusual step for the local borough councillors requiring intervention at a parliamentary level. Given that travel by tram was uncomfortable to both pedestrians and travellers alike and at the mercy of the elements it proved to be a master stroke and the system enjoyed a 25-year career serving the people of Luton. However, in 1932 the last few of these great trams were finally sold off.
